Dayton mayor, gubernatorial candidate Nan Whaley visits Athens

Dayton mayor and Democratic gubernatorial nomination hopeful Nan Whaley visited Athens on Friday as a part of her campaign tour of Southeast Ohio. Whaley made a stop at Donkey Coffee and Espresso in Uptown Athens, where she discussed her platform in the race for the governor seat, following a tour of an area solar facility: Third Sun Solar. Prior to arriving in the city, Whaley also toured Steubenville and Marietta, and this weekend she has a planned stop in Chillicothe.

Chillicothe native suspends campaign for congressional seat

CIRCLEVILLE, Ohio — Chillicothe native Brian Stewart announced today that he would suspend his congressional campaign. Stewart served previously as the Pickaway County Commissioner before recently being elected to the Ohio General Assembly. He was seeking the seat vacated by former Congressman Steve Stivers, who left to led the Ohio Chamber of Commerce on May 15.

Spangler secures GOP nod for Wellston City Council

WELLSTON — Incumbent Republican D. Keith Woolum, who has been serving on Wellston City Council for over 25 years, was unseated by newcomer, Angela Spangler. After the votes were counted, Spangler was declared the winner, beating Woolum with a 31-vote difference.
