Mrs. Etta Lou King, 105, a resident of Luverne, Alabama, passed away peacefully at Crenshaw Community Hospital on Thursday, May 12, 2022. Funeral services for Mrs. King were held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, May 18, from the Chapel of Turners Funeral Home with Brother Clay Crum officiating. Interment followed in Luverne Emmaus Cemetery with Turners Funeral Home of Luverne directing.

Pine Tree Workshop to be held on Airport Road

The Crenshaw County Forestry Planning Committee and Crenshaw County TREASURE Forest Chapter are holding a pine tree workshop on Tuesday, May 24, 2022, at 6:00 PM at the Emmett C. Strickland Pavilion located at 816 Airport Road in Luverne (next to the Tom Harbin Ag Center). Some of the topics that will be covered during the workshop are Site Prep, Planning, Seedling Selection, Ownership of Seedlings/Trees, Planting, First Thinning, Contracts, and MORE. There will also be an allotted time to ask additional questions.

Highland Home JAG team brings home county’s first national title

Highland Home’s JAG (Jobs For America’s Graduates) team participated in the National JAG Career Development Conference (NCDC) and national competition in Dallas, Texas earlier this month, May 5-7, where they brought home Crenshaw County’s first national title and two top 10 placings. Over 600 JAG students from all over the nation attended the championship event with Alabama having the second largest showing of JAG participants.

Pike County traffic fatality claims the life of Luverne woman

A two-vehicle crash that occurred on May 15 in Pike County claimed the life of a Crenshaw County woman, according to a release from the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency (ALEA). The crash occurred at approximately 7:05 p.m. on Sunday on U.S. Highway 29 near the 166-mile marker two miles west of Troy, according to the release.

Crenshaw County Woman Killed in Covington County Crash

Alabama State Troopers say a woman from Crenshaw County has been killed in a wreck in Covington County. State troopers say 40-year-old Sherry Nelson of Dozier was killed when the car she was driving was hit by an attachment on a tractor driven by 40-year-old Lance Spears of Andalusia. She was pronounced dead at the scene.

The Tom Harbin Agricultural Center has been a fixture in Luverne for over 35 years. From its inception, the ag center has helped to develop and promote agriculture in Crenshaw County and has been an asset to the county, hosting a wide variety of events with some events generating revenue for the city of Luverne and the county.

Wanted man sought in Crenshaw County

CRENSHAW COUNTY, Ala. (WSFA) - A manhunt is underway in Crenshaw County. The Crenshaw County Sheriff’s Office is searching for 20-year-old Marquise Lamond Randle Jr. Authorities say there is a felony warrant for his arrest, alleging that he shot into an occupied residence on Star Hope Church Road in Luverne on April 23.

Unsolved murder of Delange Harris-CCSO working working with ABI and FBI

This week marks eleven years in the unsolved cold case of Delange Harris’s murder. Harris’ body was found on May 3, 2011 on Athens Church Road in Goshen, Alabama. He has just turned 25. He lived in Luverne, was a Brantley High School graduate and worked at Beacon Clinic in Luverne.
