Mrs. Etta Lou King, 105, a resident of Luverne, Alabama, passed away peacefully at Crenshaw Community Hospital on Thursday, May 12, 2022. Funeral services for Mrs. King were held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, May 18, from the Chapel of Turners Funeral Home with Brother Clay Crum officiating. Interment followed in Luverne Emmaus Cemetery with Turners Funeral Home of Luverne directing.

The Crenshaw County Forestry Planning Committee and Crenshaw County TREASURE Forest Chapter are holding a pine tree workshop on Tuesday, May 24, 2022, at 6:00 PM at the Emmett C. Highland Home’s JAG (Jobs For America’s Graduates) team participated in the National JAG Career Development Conference (NCDC) and national competition in Dallas, Texas earlier this month, May 5-7, where they brought home Crenshaw County’s first national title and two top 10 placings. Over 600 JAG students from all over the nation attended the championship event with Alabama having the second largest showing of JAG participants.

A two-vehicle crash that occurred on May 15 in Pike County claimed the life of a Crenshaw County woman, according to a release from the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency (ALEA). The crash occurred at approximately 7:05 p.m. on Sunday on U.S. Highway 29 near the 166-mile marker two miles west of Troy, according to the release.

Alabama State Troopers say a woman from Crenshaw County has been killed in a wreck in Covington County. State troopers say 40-year-old Sherry Nelson of Dozier was killed when the car she was driving was hit by an attachment on a tractor driven by 40-year-old Lance Spears of Andalusia. She was pronounced dead at the scene.
