Lafayette woman sentenced for role in son’s beating death

LAFAYETTE, Ind. — A Lafayette woman found guilty of murder among other charges in the beating death of her son has learned her sentence. In May, Crystal Cox was found guilty of murder, neglect resulting in death, aggravated battery resulting in death, and battery on a person under 14 resulting in death. Cox and her boyfriend Jermaine Garnes Sr. were charged in connection with 3-year-old Zeus Cox.

Mulberry woman killed in crash on Wyandotte Road

A 54-year-old Mulberry, Indiana, woman was killed in a two-vehicle crash Monday morning at the intersection of County Road 900 East and Wyandotte Road, police say. Kelly Ward, the driver of the vehicle, was traveling est on Wyandotte Road when she arrived at the intersection, which has a stop sign for traffic coming from Wynadotte but not from CR 900 E., according to a press release by the Tippecanoe County sheriff's office. Ward's vehicle entered the intersection and was hit by a truck traveling north on the county road.

Two good friends and one great county rivalry

It was argubaly the most exciting boys golf season in recent memory this past spring. Crawfordsville and Southmont went toe to toe at seemingly every meet they met up at. The two county rivals first met up at the Danville Invite and each tied one another by each shooting a 349. The Athenians would get the better of the Mounties at the Southmont Invite by six strokes as the two schools took the top two spots. Fast forward to the Sagamore Conference meet at Rocky Ridge and it would be the same close battle with this time the Mounties edging out CHS by a single stroke for third. When the county chase title was on the line at the county meet the Athenians would best the Mounties by two strokes 347-349 to claim the county crown.

Lafayette woman gets 55 years in 3-year-old's beating death

LAFAYETTE, Ind. — A northwestern Indiana woman convicted of murder in the beating death of her 3-year-old son was sentenced Tuesday to 55 years in prison. A judge also sentenced 31-year-old Crystal Cox to two years of probation for the July 5, 2021, death of her son Zeus. When police arrived, they found Zeus on a bedroom floor and officers noticed bruising on his body.
