Alma High School student Brandon Garner takes focus being a racecar driver

The races at Crawford County Speedway were canceled last weekend, and Brandon Garner is still ready to compete at the dirt track located north of Van Buren. Garner, an incoming junior at Alma High School, primarily races at Crawford County Speedway but has also raced at nearby Tri-State Speedway just over the border into Oklahoma. He said both are fun tracks to race at.

Study: Number of tornadoes in Arkansas dropping

Arkansas as a whole has seen 20% fewer tornadoes in the last 10 years. Sebastian and Crawford counties are the opposite with tornado increases for both. While the tornadoes have not grown in strength for Sebastian County, they have grown in occurrence. Crawford County, however, has seen a 600% increase in tornadoes over the past decade. And they have grown stronger.

Push to get water to 625 Crawford County residences in deadline limbo

MOUNTAINBURG -- An initiative to furnish potable water to about 625 households in north-central Crawford County has fallen short of the support it needs to proceed. Mountainburg Mayor Susan Wilson said the city received 270 of the 400 signed water-user agreements, along with accompanying $100 deposits, needed by the Tuesday deadline she had set.

The Crawford County vegetative debris burn site is now open at 7530 Alma Highway. Hours are 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday. There will not be any equipment operators on Fridays. The site will be closed Monday, May 31 in observance of Memorial Day.

Crawford County still recovering from flooding, tornadoes

CRAWFORD COUNTY, ARKANSAS, Ark. — Nearly a month after costly storms hit the River Valley, Crawford County is still cleaning up the damage left behind. “We are still trying to get bridges open. We still have bridges that are closed right now. We are trying to repair those. Our roads have been washed out,” said Brad Thomas, Director of Crawford County Department of Emergency Management.
