Fireworks light up Hannawa Falls sky

Independence Day celebrations are being held across St. Lawrence County and Saturday night the 37th Robert Plumb Memorial Fireworks Display was held at Postwood Park Beach. Majestic Fireworks managed the launch. The display was traditionally held annually from Postwood, but was canceled in 2020 due to COVID-19 concerns. Youth ambassadors help prevent suicide, sextortion among peers

HARRISVILLE, New York (WWNY) - Preventing teen suicides and sextortion. That’s the goal of a St. Lawrence County youth ambassador program. Meet Cole Siebles and Joanie Shaw. Shaw is a senior at Harrisville High School and Siebles just graduated from Gouverneur. These two teens are part of a St. Lawrence county-wide effort to raise awareness about teen suicide and sextortion.

Hiker lost for days in Dix Range; hiker dies on Cascade

On June 22 at 9 a.m., Ray Brook Dispatch requested Forest Ranger assistance in the Dix Range with the search for a 58-year-old from Singapore last heard from on June 19 at approximately 8 p.m. The hiker was communicating with his wife in Singapore while in New York for a week, but when she did not hear from him, she called for help.

STAR LAKE, New York (WWNY) - Marsha G. Campbell, age 71, of Star Lake, passed away on June 27, 2022 at Clifton-Fine Hospital. Marsha was born on May 17, 1951 in Gouverneur, NY to the late Victor and Muriel (Kirnan) Pomerville. She graduated from Clifton-Fine Central School in 1970 and began working in the Snack Bar at the Newton Falls Paper Mill a few years later; she reveled in learning and expanded her skills to Billing, Exporting, and finished her career there after 23 ½ years as Database Administrator.

Echo Cliff hike offers trail to Panther Mountain ‘summit’

Echo Cliff at Panther Mountain is a short trek with a steep climb that pays off with a rewarding view of the southern Adirondacks. Panther Mountain—not to be confused with the Adirondacks’ other Panther Mountain near Tupper Lake—overlooks Piseco Lake in the town of Arietta in Hamilton County. The trail to and from Echo Cliff is 1.2 miles round trip with an elevation gain of 670 feet. It is a hike best labeled moderate. It is a local favorite, especially in the summer, and is accessible via a short walk from three state campgrounds: Little Sand Point, Poplar Point, and Point Comfort. The trailhead is located between Little Sand Point and Point Comfort.
