Montana high school track and field: Cascade Badgers sweep 10C meet going away

The Cascade Badgers were on a roll Saturday, one of a dominating nature they swept the top team hardware at the District 10C track nad field championships at Memorial Stadium. The Lady Badgers racked up 156 points, 67 more than runnerup Power. Simms took third with 86, and Sunburst fourth with 83. Basketball Award Night

The Cascade Badgers Basketball Team, parents, and Head Coach Mike Moore gathered at the gym last Tuesday evening, as Coach Moore praised his team for their efforts, accomplishments, and teamwork throughout their hard-fought ’21-’22 season. Varsity Letter Awards, All-Conference, Jr.Varsity, and Player of the Year Awards were handed out; received with all smiles from these talented young athletes. In true Coach Moore fashion, he reminded them that the the next season starts now, to keep pushing , improving, and practicing as we all look forward to what the next season brings. Reporters for the Cascade Courier enjoy covering these games as they are a full-court pressed team with an enthusiastic, goal-oriented coach.

Power School Hosts Junior High and Elementary School Music Festival

On Saturday, April 23, students from Power, Greenfield, Simms and Cascade went to Power Schools for the Junior High and Elementary Music Festival. Music Director Melissa Gilbert from Power organized the event to give students in 5th - 8th grades this opportunity to gain experience. Students prepared solos and small ensembles that they performed for comments and tips. The band adjudicator was James Mepham from Great Falls High School and the adjudicator for piano and voice was Ellen Forslund from North Middle School.

The Town of Cascade is preparing applications for over $1.3 million in grant funding from the Montana Department of Natural Resources and Conservation (DNRC), Montana Coal Endowment Program (MCEP), and Montana's Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) program to continue replacing damaged sewer mains. Two candidates filed for the one open Cascade 3 & B seat on the School Board. According to the school website on April 19, 2022, neither candidate had withdrawn. This means the election will continue. Please vote using the ballots you may have received from Cascade Schools. The election has not been cancelled.

Jean Carol Largent

An icon of Sun River Valley, a beautiful gentle soul, Jean Carol Largent peacefully passed away surrounded by her loved ones on April 18th, 2022, six days after her 89th birthday. A memorial service will be held at Simms Methodist Church on Tuesday, May 3rd at 11 AM. She again is reunited with her husband Howard, parents, and many other loved ones surrounded by the Jesus’ unconditional love.

Media event May 4

I want to give you a heads up about a possible media event near you. Prior to the topping out ceremony at the Montana Historical Society in May, our contractor is trucking a steel beam across Montana for students to sign, and they’re coming to a school near you. As background for you, I have attached the notice we’re sending to teachers to help them explain to students how a topping out ceremony works.


It was a packed house Tuesday evening at the library for local historian Frank LaLiberty's presentation on Cascade icon Mary Fields. In fact, extra chairs were set up in the adjoining room to accommodate the overflow! Cascade loves Mary Fields, and her life was as inspirational then, as it is now.

Black and Gold scholarship now available!

We have some exciting news! The Friends of the Black & Gold will be offering two scholarships of $500 to Cascade High School Seniors who are actively involved in community service activities. These students should be able to demonstrate their volunteerism through their dedication to enrich the youth in their community.
