Man charged with injuring deputy in Moultrie County

SULLIVAN — A Charleston man has been charged with armed violence and other offenses during which a Moultrie County deputy was injured, officials said. The Moultrie County State's Attorney's Office reported that Alexander W. Fritz, 25, also has been charged with unlawful possession of a stolen/converted vehicle and with resisting a peace officer regarding the incident on Monday in a rural area of the county.

Teamwork Leads To Methamphetamine And Weapons Arrest

On Monday, June 7, 2021 at approximately 2:58 P.M. Effingham City Police were called to assist Effingham County Sheriff’s Deputies at Days Inn, 1602 Damron Court. As Deputies were serving warrants for two individuals in the hotel room, they located illegal narcotic equipment. A subsequent search warrant was obtained by Effingham Police; during the search Officers located one-half pound of methamphetamine and a firearm.

Effingham County Health Department Announces Drive-Thru Clinics For Back-To-School Shots For Grades 6 And 12

The Effingham County Health Department will hold two Drive-Thru clinics for those entering Grades 6 and Grades 12 who are in need of Back-to-School immunizations. The first clinic will be on Tuesday, June 22, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. TDap, Meningitis B, Meningitis C vaccines will be available. A parent or legal guardian must accompany the child. They should also bring their health insurance information and the child’s Immunization Card. Appointments are preferred for these drive-thru clinics so please call 217-342-9237 to arrange. A second clinic will be held on Tuesday, July 6 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Travis Buhnerkempe promoted to lieutenant

The Effingham County Sheriff’s Office announced the recent promotion of Sgt. Travis Buhnerkempe to lieutenant. In this new position, Lt. Buhnerkempe will act as the department head of the Patrol Section, scheduling work hours and working with the patrol sergeants to ensure quality service and patrol coverage. He will also serve as a member of the sheriff’s Command Staff.
