Willits City Hall renovations nearly complete

The June 22 Willits City Council meeting was held virtually. City Manager Brian Bender reported, “We are making our final push on City Hall renovations.”. City Hall was scheduled to close to the public for one day while painting was being finished and the new furniture was moved in. Staff was available for any public inquiries during the closure. Bender said, “The public has been very accommodating in our renovations, they have been understanding.” He requested continued patience as the renovation is completed.

I have been asked many times, “What is going to happen to the Old Howard Hospital”? We have not had an answer because we’ve had it listed for sale for years and had no interest at all, even though we have dropped the price to less than half the appraised value. The vandalism and things that happen to a vacant building have taken a toll, and now we must do something. The overhead of taxes, maintenance, and security is becoming a financial burden. The Willits PD or the Fire Department is called at least 3 times a week. Last week the Fire Department was called out and found a man in the attic lighting matches.

WILLITS, Calif. — A man was arrested on Thursday, June 23 after brandishing a loaded gun in public, according to Willits Police Department. The suspect, Cody Caldwell, was arrested near the 100 block of Holly Street in Willits. Caldwell reportedly got into an argument with a man and took out a loaded weapon, saying he felt threatened.
