Cuba man attacks woman at river access

A convicted criminal with a previous history of violence attacked a woman attempting to fish at a local river access point after he tried to steal her truck. As a result of the June 13 incident, Michael Everett Uhl, born in 1986, of Cuba, stands charged with the class E felony assault in the third degree, the class D felony of tampering in the first degree, and the class D felony of assault in the third degree.

Steelville man facing five child sex crime charges during November trial in Phelps County

A trial date is set for a Crawford County man accused of sex crimes involving a minor in Phelps County. It was Wednesday when a Phelps County judge scheduled Jerry Calkins, of Steelville, for a two-day trial to begin November 15. He was charged last September with three counts of statutory sodomy with a person younger than 14. Three months later, he was charged with two counts of sodomy with a victim less than 14. Both cases will be tried at the same time.

Cuba Man Succumbs to Injuries After Pickup Truck Crash in Crawford County

(Cuba) A man from Cuba died a few hours after being flown to Mercy Hospital in St. Louis after a pickup truck crash early Monday morning in Crawford County. The Highway Patrol says the accident happened on I-44 eastbound at mile marker 207.8, just west of Cuba when a Ford Ranger driven by 33-year-old Justin Studdard ran off the road, struck an embankment, the truck overturned and came to rest on it’s side.
