MUSKOGEE, Oklahoma - The Muscogee Nations says its investment in a new K9 for the Lighthorse Police is already paying off. According to Principal Chief David Hill, the dog has already helped get more than 20 pounds of methamphetamine and $6,600 dollars of illegally obtained currency off of the streets.

‘A helpless feeling’: Webbers Falls bridge collapse witness still thinks of those lost

Ronnie Cole, a crop duster who now lives in Sallisaw, was prepping a plane three-quarters of a mile from the Webbers Falls bridge when he heard it. “I can hear those sounds like they were yesterday,” Cole said. “We were getting an aircraft ready to put down fertilizer. We called highway patrol, and they said they’d gotten a report that the bridge had fallen.”

WEBBERS FALLS, Okla. — On May 26, 2002, just before 8 a.m., tragedy struck on the Arkansas River. A barge crashed into a support beam holding up the 1-40 bridge. A 580-foot section of the bridge plunged into the water near Webbers Falls, taking with it several cars and tractor-trailers.
