AUSTIN, Texas — Texas Humane Heroes (TXHH), a group that rescues animals from other shelters that choose to euthanize for space, has reached maximum capacity. With locations in Leander and Killeen, TXHH said every kennel and enclosure is full and they are no longer able to take other animals from shelter partners. Residents attempt to save injured owl

A group of Horseshoe Bay residents valiantly but unsuccessfully tried to save the life of a great horned owl last week, Horseshoe Bay Police Chief Rocky Wardlow said. It happened on Friday, May 14, when a local ladies group, known as the Texanas, were walking in The Trails subdivision, located on Ranch Road 2831. This group, led by Trails resident Judy Keller, encountered a great horned owl which had suffered an injury and was unable to fly.

Rescue finds homes for dogs saved from Burnet hoarding situation

Legolas and Aragorn are among the last of 13 dogs that Highland Lakes Canine Rescue took in from a total of 90 dogs removed from a Burnet-area home earlier this year. Burnet County sheriff’s deputies found the dogs in a manufactured home with dilapidated walls and holes in the floor. Some were trapped underneath the floor and in the walls. Most of the dogs weighed 25 pounds or less and shared similar physical characteristics.
