The Iron Mining Association is thrilled to announce Kristen Vake as the organization’s new executive director. She will be replacing former IMA President Kelsey Johnson. “The IMA Board is excited to have Kristen Vake leading the organization,” said Chrissy Bartovich of U.S. Steel and chair of the IMA Board. “Kristen’s deep roots in the mining industry combined with her passion for the Iron Range make her uniquely positioned to lead the IMA. Highway 135 settling correction underway in Biwabik today

BIWABIK – The Minnesota Department of Transportation is progressing on correcting the Highway 135 settlement issues through Biwabik, a MnDOT news release said. A local and unofficial detour will be in place today through Wednesday using flaggers. Patching to ensure safety will occur between First Avenue and Second Avenue and from Third Avenue to West Railroad Street. Second Avenue to Third Avenue will be reclaimed to provide a more walkable surface until the street can be resurfaced later this summer. Calcium chloride will be applied to control dust. A final layer of pavement will be installed in 2023. There is no cost to the City of Biwabik for these corrections.
