Obituary & Services: Stephen “Steve” Lynn Myers

Steve Myers, 77, of Unionville, Missouri, passed away at Boone Hospital Center in Columbia, Missouri, on Saturday, June 25, 2022, after suffering a stroke the previous week. Stephen Lynn “Steve” Myers was born in Sullivan County, Missouri, on February 3, 1945, the son of Harold and Mary Jane (Triplett) Myers who preceded him in death. Steve graduated from Unionville High School in 1962. He worked for Harris Feed and Seed in Centerville, Iowa, and then for Veirs Fur House in Unionville. Steve spent most of his working career with the city of Unionville Water department where he worked for 35 years. Even in retirement he was called on for advice and worked part-time until retiring in 2018. Steve married Margarett Loughead in Cincinnati, Iowa, on October 3, 1962, and she survives.

Troopers Arrest Newtown

One arrest in the area counties was reported by the Missouri Highway Patrol for the weekend. Saturday in Sullivan County, Troopers arrested 21-year-old Joshua M Allen for Newtown at about 2:55 am for alleged DWI. He was processed and released.

Leisure’s No Hitter Helps Knoxville Baseball Past Centerville; Knoxville Softball Holds Off Centerville

A no hitter by Beau Leisure propelled the Knoxville Baseball Squad to a 5-0 win over Centerville on Thursday. Leisure faced the minimum in five of the seven innings helped by his defense and nine strikeouts on his own. Both teams were held off the scoreboard in the first three innings, but the Panthers scratched out three runs in the 3rd as Leisure helped his own cause by singling in a run. Two more insurance runs came across in the 6th inning. Coach Turner Devore told KNIA/KRLS Sports, Leisure did not have his best stuff but he gutted out the distance with help from his defense.

Jane (Stufflebeam) Meagher, age 70, of Centerville, passed away peacefully Tuesday, June 21, 2022 at MercyOne Medical Center in Centerville in the company of her family. Jane was born in January, 1952 in Centerville, Iowa to Earnie Stufflebeam and Marie (Carr) Stufflebeam. She was the 4th of 5 siblings and graduated from Moravia High School in 1970. Continuing her education, she earned her AA from Indian Hills Community College in 1972, her LPN in 1976, and her RN in 1978. Janes nearly 35-year nursing career was spent primarily in geriatric facilities including Golden Age Care Center (Centerville) and Davis County Hospital (Bloomfield), until she retired.

Chariton boys 1st in 400 meters; second in 1,600, 4 x 400 and distance medley at Charger Relays

The Chariton Chargers boys track team had some notable highlights from the Charger Relays at Bob Cain Track in Chariton Tuesday, April 12. Chariton had the 400 meter dash champion and they finished second overall in the 1,600 meters, 4 x 400 relay and the distance medley relay. The Chargers also placed third overall in the 110-meter hurdles and the high jump.

CHS girls golf team 2nd at home triangular meet

The Chariton girls golf team hosted a triangular meet with Clarke and Knoxville at Lakeview Golf & Country Club in Chariton Monday, April 11. Chariton placed second overall as a team with a score of 248. Clarke won the meet with a score of 228 and Knoxville placed third with a score of 255.

Charger boys tennis team routs Saydel for first win

The Chariton boys tennis team totally dominated in an 8-1 win over Saydel at Chariton Tuesday, April 12. The Chargers had three shut out wins and three wins by an 8-1 score. The dominant win came one day after the team’s season opening loss to Trenton, Mo., at Trenton. With the win, Chariton evened its season record at 1-1.

Stacie Media Hall, 47 years old, was carried away by angels on May 16, 2022. Stacie was born March 3, 1975 to Scott and Brenda (Clanin) Hall in Corydon, Iowa. She attended some of her grade school at Russell Community School before moving to Centerville. After graduating Stacie attended the U. S. Army National Guard Basic Combat Training in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina before returning to serve in Missouri. She moved to Florida in 2005 and had recently moved to Mobile, Alabama.
