CO Sean Williams (Ely #1) reports that ATV activity continued to be high over the week. Boating and angling activity was nearly nonexistent over the weekend with cool weather, strong winds and rain. There were several emergency calls in the BWCA as at least four canoes had capsized in the extreme wind.

Yesterday, Monday, June 27, 2022, a reproductive rights rally was held at the Ashland Band Shell. We had approximately 100 people protesting at our highest point of the afternoon! There was a tremendous amount of motorists who showed their support by honking, giving a thumbs up and pumping their fists. There were some motorists who didn't agree, but that was the minority. The people who organized this rally (Eleesa Kline, Sarah Wargin and Phoebe Lee) are quite passionate and impressive. There were a good number of League members and friends in attendance and for that, we thank you! It was truly a beautiful sight to see people of all ages and genders coming together in this fight.

Jeanne Rae Peterson, 76, of Iron River Wisconsin Passed away peacefully on February 2, 2022, at Twin Ports Health Services in Superior, WI. Jeanne was born in Duluth Minnesota on February 17, 1946, to Arnold and Evelyn (Soderberg) Peterson, the youngest of three siblings. Jeanne graduated high school from Denfeld High in 1964, and after high school she stayed in Duluth, married, and started her family. In the early 70’s after divorcing her first husband, Jeanne and her daughter Paula moved to Iron River where she started her lengthy career in the hospitality industry, beginning with Stewart’s Lodge. She was well known in Iron River for her talents in the kitchen, especially her potato salad and pigs in the blanket, working at almost every eating establishment and tavern in town showing off her witty/sarcastic personality and always letting you know exactly how she felt. She worked at other businesses such as LePage’s Hardware Store and who could forget her business Jeanne’s Fantasy and Fun. In 2000 she was blessed with a Grandson from her second daughter whom she adored! He was the center of her universe and she let everyone know! She was a genuine person who would be the first to lend a helping hand, volunteer for a benefit, or give you a couple of rolls of toilet paper if you ran out. She will be missed by many, but leaves behind epic memories for all to cherish, hot tub party anyone?

CLOQUET, Minn.- The Wood City Classic softball tournament wrapped up today as teams from across the Northland competed for the championship. The tournament started just a year ago and since then, has doubled in size with 36 teams and around 400 girls at Braun Park today. Organizers say, the sports is making a presence again in the Northland.

Cable, WI -- The Cable’s Natural History Museum has gotten a new addition. A pavilion was built at the Museum’s Wayside Wanderings Natural Play Area. It has been named “Wake Robin,” a common name for Trillium. The three petals represent wonder, discovery, and responsibility from the Museum’s mission statement. It will serve as a large, dry, and bug-free assembly room at Wayside Wanderings, providing opportunity for programs limited by the layout of the Museum’s current public spaces.

The Northland College men's and women's soccer teams are set to host three separate camps this summer. All three camps will take place at Ponzio Stadium, beginning with the skills camp Monday the 27th through the 28th. Additionally their annual youth camp which began Saturday, will conclude tomorrow for kids...

Two Harbors City Councilor Robin Glaser says it is time for the town’s mayor, Chris Swanson, to step down. “My heart breaks for everyone in this community,” Glaser said during a special meeting of the Two Harbors City Council on Monday, June 20. “And I’m not just talking about the 3,500 people who live here, but everyone who calls Two Harbors home, or who has ever called Two Harbors home.
