Grand Prairie police arrest 2 men in connection to Sunday slaying

GRAND PRAIRIE, Texas (CBSDFW.COM) - Grand Prairie police arrested two men in connection to the fatal shooting of Luis Gongora, 25, on Sunday, May 15. He was found dead in the 100 block of Goerte Drive around 7:30 a.m.Detectives determined Gongora was engaged in a disturbance and exchanged gunfire with both suspects, who he knew. After the shooting, police said Jose and Christian Zavala fled the scene in a vehicle driven by a third man, identified as Juan Rivera-Hernandez, 33.Jose Zavala is currently in police custody at a local hospital with a charge of murder. Suspects Christian Zavala and Juan Rivera-Hernandez are currently in the Grand Prairie Detention Center with a charge of murder.

The Flower Mound High School cheerleading squad has been invited to perform in the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade, and the girls are eagerly raising money to fund the trip. Alyse Tritton, the Jaguars’ varsity cheerleading coach, said she thinks they got the invitation based on performances last year, including making it to the UIL state finals and the semifinals at nationals. Frisco Diner owners to introduce new restaurant called Birdies

Family-owned Frisco Diner is expanding, opening a second location that will operate under the name Birdies. The restaurant will offer similar menu items to the original restaurant but will feature its own branding, said Afrim Seferi, owner of Frisco Diner. Frisco Diner is open for breakfast and lunch, and takes a modern approach to comfort dishes, such as waffles, eggs and fried chicken, according to Seferi. The Birdies location will be at the Urban Heights at Hollyhock development at 2115 University Drive, Ste. 200, Frisco. The owners expect to gain possession of the building in June, and the project is expected to take four to five months to complete. The business is slated to open by the end of the year.
