2 injured in shooting at Birmingham apartment complex

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. — Two people were injured in a shooting at an apartment complex in Birmingham's Apple Valley neighborhood late Friday night. Birmingham police responded to Monarch Ridge Apartments in the 2900 block of Gallant Drive just before midnight and arrived to find two people suffering from gunshot wounds. The victims were taken to the hospital, where their conditions are unknown.

Birmingham postal inspector says someone local tried mailing thousands of counterfeit checks

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WBRC) - Local postal inspectors are warning of a mail scam that could be on it’s way to your mailbox. Earlier this week, local US Postal Inspector, Tony Robinson, found four tubs filled with thousands of counterfeit postage and checks. He said it is all a scam and they were able to catch a lot of the fake mail, but some of it could still have been sent out, so you need to be careful.

Alabama inmate sought after overpowering deputy, fleeing in stolen ambulance

Police in central Alabama are searching for an escaped jail inmate who they say is still on the run after evading custody on Wednesday afternoon. The man, identified as 45-year-old Phillip Shane Bradford, was able to overpower a deputy overseeing his transfer to UAB hospital in Birmingham before fleeing the area in a vacant ambulance, the Jefferson County Sheriff's Office said in a press release.

Deadly traffic crash investigation turns homicide probe in Jefferson County

CENTER POINT, Ala. — Update: The Jefferson County Coroner Medical Examiner's Office identified the victim as 33-year-old Nathan Wilson Jr. of Birmingham. The coroner said Wilson was a passenger in a car on Carson Road when someone in another vehicle began firing shots at the vehicle, causing it to crash into a ravine and strike several trees. Authorities initially believed Wilson was killed in the wreck, but they have since learned he was shot. The Jefferson County Sheriff's Office is now investigating his death as a homicide. The coroner did not release the victim's official cause of death. Watch the video above to learn more and see the scene.

Birmingham man gets six years in prison for gun, drug charges

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WBRC) - The office of the U.S. Attorney Prim F. Escalona announced that a Birmingham man has been sentenced to six years in prison for gun and drug charges. Officials say 39-year-old LaMarcus Antonio Sills Sr. pleaded guilty to charges that he possessed heroin with the intent to distribute, felon possession of a firearm, and carried a firearm during and in relation to drug trafficking crime.

Birmingham Area at High Risk of COVID Transmission

Jefferson County’s positivity rate has been rising and now stands at 25%, according to the Alabama Department of Public Health, and the county has had an average of 291 new cases a day for the past seven days. Argument at McDonald's in Midfield leads to shots fired, manager injured

Man killed, 2 others injured in Center Point crash

CENTER POINT Ala. (WBRC) - A single-vehicle crash claimed a man’s life and injured two others. Shortly before noon on June 23, the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office was dispatched to the 1700 block of Carson Road in Center Point to investigate a single-vehicle accident.
