Performances in the Park Kicks Off Summer Concerts in Copper Harbor Tonight

Performances in the Park enjoys the sounds of their first summer concerts tonight. The summer series is presented by the Copper Harbor Improvement Association, and takes place in the heart of Copper Harbor at Donny Kilpela Memorial Park, centrally located along Gratiot Street. Kathy and Jeff Ihde are very excited to open the band shell back up, even if this season has come with a few hiccups. Tonight’s show with Mojo, Jake and friends will look a little different due to an emergency with one performer.

Man hospitalized after canoe sinks along Keweenaw Peninsula

EAGLE HARBOR, MI— A man was taken to the hospital Sunday after his canoe sank off Eagle Harbor in Keweenaw County. Around 2:20 p.m. the Sheriff’s Office was notified a subject was past the bell buoy and was having difficulty getting back into the harbor. A few moments later it was reported the canoe had sunk and the man was in distress.

Keweenaw Sheriff's Office rescues man from sunken canoe

EAGLE HARBOR, Mich. (WLUC) - A man was rescued Sunday by the Keweenaw County Sheriff’s Office (KCSO) after being unable to return his canoe to shore. The KCSO was called around 2:40 p.m. to an incident in Eagle Harbor where a man looked like he was having a hard time canoeing to shore. A few moments later, it was reported the canoe had sunk and the subject was in distress.

Man treated for hypothermia after canoe sinks in Eagle Harbor

EAGLE HARBOR, Mich. (WJMN) – Keweenaw County Sheriff’s Office responded on Sunday afternoon to reports of a person struggling while canoeing near Eagle Harbor. Officers were dispatched at about 2:40 p.m. on Sunday, June 19, after receiving word of a canoer that looked like he was having difficulty getting back into the harbor while out past the harbor’s bell buoy.

Our two kids were pre-teens, still at the age when we could convince them a ten-hour car ride would be tons of fun. Temperatures that summer were unusually hot and humid flirting with 100 degrees. Lake Rattle & Roll music series planned this summer in Copper Harbor

COPPER HARBOR, Mich. (WJMN) – The Lake Effect Bar & Grill in Copper Harbor is planning a live music series this summer called Lake Rattle & Roll. The series will feature a weekly event on Wednesdays from July 6 through August 17. It will lead up to the Lake Fanny Hooe Down 2 festival in Copper Harbor on August 26-27.

The Abandoned Clark Mine in Copper Harbor, Michigan

Way up in the Upper Peninsula is an undetermined number of old mines. Iron, copper, etc. Undetermined because there are still some that have been abandoned, taken over by the overgrowth, lost, and forgotten by time. Every now and then, an explorer traipsing thru the Michigan wilderness comes across an old mine that is undocumented.
