Mother of missing drowning victim urges caution on the waters

COPIAH COUNTY, Miss. (WLBT) - The mother of a young duck hunter is encouraging boaters to use caution as they head out on the waters. Sharon Hughes’s son 21-year-old Zeb and 16-year-old Gunner Palmer went to scout duck hunting locations and never returned. Their lives were remembered this week at the Copiah County Courthouse during National Boat Safety Week.

Co-Lin awards Presidential, Pitts scholarships

Copiah-Lincoln Community College recently named Presidential Leadership Scholars, Taylor Presidential Scholars and Pitts Scholars. Seven area high school seniors have been named Presidential Leadership Scholars. They are: Nicholas Wester, homeschool in Simpson County; Olivia Fleming of Franklin County High School; Heidi Smith of West Lincoln Attendance Center; Brooklyn Laird of West Lincoln Attendance Center; Brady Ratcliff of West Lincoln Attendance Center; Laney Beard of Wesson Attendance Center; and Shelby Lofton of Enterprise Attendance Center. Presidential Scholarships are awarded to outstanding high school seniors through an application and interview process through the college president’s office each spring.
