Man accused of trying to take officer’s gun during fight

BRIDGEPORT, W.Va (WDTV) - A Lewis County man is accused of trying to take an officer’s gun during an altercation Tuesday afternoon. Officers were performing an undercover operation in Weston when they saw a man, later identified as Eric Groves, 39, and a woman arguing and walking toward Robert L. Bland Middle School, according to a criminal complaint.

Man accused of throwing hedge shears at another man

WESTON, W.Va (WDTV) - A man was arrested in Lewis County after officers said he fired shots and threw a large pair of hedge trimming shears at a man. Officers were dispatched to a home in Horner for a shots fired call on Friday, April 15 and spoke to several witnesses, according to a criminal complaint.

BPD, City proclaim new honoree for 5th Annual Recognition Day

BUCKHANNON — Members of the Buckhannon City Council and of the Buckhannon Police Department (BPD) gathered together to proclaim former police officer David Coffman as the 2022 City of Buckhannon’s fifth annual honoree. Coffman’s family and friends and other members of the community were also present for the celebration. The event took place at the Public Safety Complex at 2 p.m.

CSX rejects blame from Tampa Electric for low coal supplies

Tampa Electric has had to curtail operations at its Big Bend power station in Florida, and the utility blames the curtailment on “severe rail service shortages” and a reduction of coal deliveries. But CSX says the problem lies with the mine producing the coal, not with rail service.

FETC celebrates 2022 graduates

BUCKHANNON — Fred W. Eberle Technical Center (FETC) hosted a graduation for graduates for the 2022 school year. The celebration took place at the Buckhannon-Upshur High School on Tuesday, May 17. A list of graduates and their field of study are provided below. Names in bold type represent the students of Upshur County. Students inducted into the National Technical Honor Society also have a star by their name.

WVSF holds 80th Annual Opening Ceremony

BUCKHANNON — The torch lighting and opening ceremony for the 80th Annual West Virginia Strawberry Festival (WVSF) was held at noon on Wednesday, May 18. The ceremony was held at the Upshur County Courthouse with both WVSF royalty and board members present. In addition, many community members attended as well as City of Buckhannon and Upshur County officials.

This week is the celebration of the West Virginia Strawberry Festival’s 80th year. For me, this flashback has many memories of the years I worked with the Strawberry Festival. I have so many memories of the wonderful visitors that I met from towns all over the United States. I also met folks from several other countries. The visitors always commented about the friendliness shown to them here in Buckhannon. They always felt welcome.

Strawberry Festival Gets Normal Status after COVID Cancelation in 2020, Abbreviated Version Last Year

The 80th Annual West Virginia Strawberry Festival is underway in full capacity for the first time since COVID-19 interrupted the decades-old event in 2020. Two years ago, the pandemic scratched the entire affair. Last year, the Festival was held on a very scaled down version. Season ends in Sectional semi-final for Minutemen
