Robert ‘Bob’ James Small, 58, passed away on January 3, 2022, at his home. He was born September 17, 1963, in Callaway, NE, to Fred E. and Alma L. (Hagans) Small. Bob was a graduate of Satanta High School, Satanta, KS. He was employed by AgTrax, Hutchinson, since 1996 as a computer programmer. Bob was an avid bowler and member of the United States Bowling Congress. He enjoyed reading, especially Western novels and books.

PLAINS – Maria De Jesus Smith, age 50, passed away Friday, June 24, 2022, at Juarez, Mexico, as a result of an automobile accident. She was born June 9, 1972, at Penon Blanco, Durango, Mexico, the daughter of Ruben Jimenez and Gualalupe Meraz. As a young girl, she was raised in Mexico, moving to the Kismet-Plains are in 1990, she worked in the cafeteria, as well as a translator for Southwestern Heights High School for many years.

GRAY COUNTY, Kan. - A man from Wyoming was uninjured after the plane he was piloting crashed just before 7:30 a.m. Saturday near the Montezuma Airport in Gray County. The Kansas Highway Patrol (KHP) reported that a Kit Fox 5 Vixen plane piloted by 55-year-old Lester Smothers of Casper, Wyoming was attempting a flight from Meade, Kansas to Casper, Wyoming.

James A. (Jim) Hush, age 86, passed away Wednesday morning, June 22, 2022, at the Regent Park Rehabiltation and Healthcare, Wichita, Kansas. He was born January 20, 1936, at Wichita, Kansas, the son of Leonard and Blanche Lucille (Armentrout) Hush. At the age of six months, he moved with his mother and twin sisters to Plains. He attended the Plains school system, graduating from Plains High School in 1954 and was a part of the undefeated football team. In 1955, he joined the United States Army, serving in Germany until 1957. Upon his discharge, he returned to Plains and began his career as a farmer and as an auctioneer. In 1959, he started the Liberal Auction Company conducting farm and household sales.

Ardine Maynard, age 83, passed away early Thursday morning, June 16, 2022, at her sister’s Dodge City, Kansas, residence. She was born July 25, 1938, in Dodge City, Kansas, the daughter of George Owen and Norma Madeline (Shumard) Tolson. As a young girl, she attended school in Dodge City and later graduated from Minneola High School. She furthered her education by attending St. Mary of the Plains in Dodge City, receiving her Bachelor of Science degree in Education and graduating with honors. She then attended Wichita State University receiving her Masters degree in English, also graduating with honors. She was a longtime resident of Fowler, and was a school teacher, teaching in Minneola, Ensign, and Cimarron.

FOWLER – Delbert J. Miller, 93, died Wednesday, June 8, 2022 at the Minneola Long Term Care Center in Minneola. He was born June 3, 1929 to Louise F. and Eva (Lehman) Miller. He married Marie Louise Crotinger March 7, 1954. She preceded him in death May 29, 2006.
