Three Mackinaw City Hotels Accused of Tricking Guests Reach Settlement With Michigan

Three hotels in Mackinaw City accused of tricking guests into booking rooms at closed establishments have reached a settlement with the Michigan Attorney General's office. In February of this year, the Lieghio family, which owns several hotel properties in Northern Michigan, was accused of pulling a basic bait and switch maneuver. Patrons were essentially tricked into booking rooms at hotels that were advertised online, but then upon arrival were forced into rooms at other hotels, sometimes with fewer amenities.

Mackinaw City hotels accused of tricking guests into booking at closed hotels agree to stop, must give refunds

MACKINAW CITY, Mich. (FOX 2) - Multiple Mackinaw City hotels accused of tricking travelers have agreed to stop the deceptive practice and issue refunds to customers. Michigan Attorney General Dana Nessel reached an Assurance of Voluntary Compliance (AVC) with entities doing business at more than 20 hotels and vacation rentals in the city. Refunds available for tourists defrauded by Mackinaw City hotels

End-of-year Murder Mystery weekend coming to Walloon

WALLOON LAKE — Hotel Walloon and the national touring company of Keith & Margo’s Murder Mystery Weekend have finalized plans to conduct the first in a series of annual Murder Mystery Weekend events in Walloon Lake and have scheduled the first one for Friday-Sunday, Nov. 4-6. The weekend of mystery and crime-solving will follow one of mystery writers Keith O’Leary and Margo Morrison's twisting plots. The events will begin with a Friday evening cocktail reception in the Hotel Lobby when guests meet their fellow sleuths along with incognito actors posing as guests. The mystery plays out through the weekend at meal times and finishes on Sunday when the solution is revealed. The three-day, two-night weekend package includes hotel accommodations and amenities, meals, and the Murder Mystery Weekend adventure.

Michigan man sentenced to jail, probation after threatening to decapitate judge

OTSEGO COUNTY, Mich. (FOX 2) - A Michigan man will spend time in jail after authorities say he threatened to decapitate a judge and challenged him to a duel. Jonathan Brisson, 32, of Vanderbilt, was sentenced this week to 12 months in jail with credit for 100 days time served, and two years of probation. He also cannot have contact with Otsego County Circuit Court Chief Judge Colin G. Hunter, and must undergo mental health treatment.

Walloon Lake Association Installs Two New Boat Washing Stations at Walloon Lake

The Walloon Lake Association has installed two new boat-washing stations along Walloon Lake, addressing an environmental concern that impacts the entire region. The new stations are put in place to help with the spread of invasive water species, which has impacted the region for years. In 2019, it became Michigan law that boaters must ensure plants and aquatic organisms are free of their boats and trailers when transporting them.
