Coralville woman charged with Child Endangerment after being found intoxicated

A Coralville woman was taken into custody after an investigation determined she was intoxicated while in charge of a child less than a year old. Police say 31-year-old Kristin State of 10th Street was the sole caregiver of the child. On June 19th just before noon, she was allegedly intoxicated and unable to properly care for the child. During the incident, State reportedly allowed the child to be in a pool of water, placing the child at substantial risk of physical harm.

Police investigating death of 13-year-old in Marengo

MARENGO, Iowa (KCRG) - Investigators said they are conducting an investigation following the death of a 13-year-old girl at a home in Marengo. Emergency crews responded to a report of an unresponsive juvenile at a home in the 1000 block of Cherry Avenue shortly after 6:40 a.m. Monday. The girl was taken to Compass Memorial Hospital where she was pronounced dead.

The Iowa City, Iowa, school district plans to spend $350,000 to put sensors in high school restrooms to detect vaping. The school system last year banned "possessing, distributing, or using drug paraphernalia, including vaping, on school property or at school-sponsored or approved events off the school grounds at any time, including official school events at other schools." The funds for the sensors will come from a special property tax for school physical plants and equipment.

Quad Cities All-Eastern Iowa girls track and field team

Ellie Rickertsen, Northeast: The University of Iowa track and field recruit won Class 2A state championships in the 100 hurdles (14.44 seconds) and 400 hurdles (1:03.44). She became just the sixth girl in Iowa history to claim titles in both individual hurdle events in back-to-back state meets. Rickertsen was a five-time state champion and captured 10 state medals despite no sophomore season because of the COVID-19 pandemic. She ran a 13.91 handheld time in the 100 hurdles at the state qualifier, among the top times recorded in state history. A three-sport athlete at Northeast, she placed second at the Drake Relays in the 400 hurdles and third in the 100 hurdles. Rickertsen also ran on Northeast's fourth place 400 relay and sixth place sprint medley relay at state.
