Few things are as American as a delicious cheeseburger. Cooked and topped however you want it, there's so many ways to enjoy a burger. We could go on and on, much like Bubba talking about shrimp from Forest Gump, but we think these local restaurants across Eastern Connecticut do a better job of showcasing all the ways you can chow down on the quintessential American staple.

NEWINGTON — The Bruno’s Way 5k run and dog-friendly fitness walk is back for the second year, and will benefit Connecticut Humane Society pets. The event is set for Oct. 23 in the Mill Pond Park area of Newington, and registration is now open at CThumane.org/BrunosWay. There will be prizes for top finishing times and a free gift for everyone who registers to save pets’ lives, according to a statement.

Online sports betting expected to launch in Connecticut Oct. 7

The Oct. 7 NFL game between the Seattle Seahawks and Los Angeles Rams is expected to be the first opportunity for online sports betting in Connecticut. The Mashantucket Pequot and Mohegan tribes and the Connecticut Lottery Corp. will all launch their online sportsbooks on that date, if they submit required documents in time, Kaitlyn Krasselt, a spokeswoman for the Department of Consumer Protection, confirmed Friday.

Connecticut weight-loss camp surrenders license after state investigation

KENT — Camp Shane, a weight-loss camp that abruptly closed this summer, has voluntarily surrendered its license to state officials, according to the Office of Early Childhood. The shutdown was prompted by staffing-related issues according to the camp owner, but also came the same week the OEC and the Department of Children and Families announced an ongoing joint investigation into the summer camp.
