A man was charged with driving while impaired and other crimes after he was found in a vehicle with no lights parked on U.S. 264. Documents from Pitt County District Court said that Brian Robert Weaver, 21, of 2182 Briley Road, Greenville, was found by troopers with the State Highway Patrol parked in the middle of U.S. 264 in a vehicle with no lights at 11:43 p.m. June 20. Stantonsburg resident Hipolito Ornelas Villegas walks along N.C. 58 where a town of Stantonsburg bucket truck raised a large American flag Friday afternoon to kick off the Fourth of July holiday weekend. “We had plans for it at the fireworks show, but since we didn’t have that, we decided to put it out on (N.C.) 58 for the weekend,” said Town Manager David R. Beaman. A brush fire in La Grange last month spread to a container where some of pyrotechnics contractor Hale Artificier’s fireworks were stored, causing them to explode. Replacements weren’t immediately available, so the Wilson County Fairgrounds and the town of Stantonsburg canceled their fireworks shows for this year. An Independence Day weekend fireworks display at Fleming Stadium after the Wilson Tobs game is planned for Saturday.

Oshonda B. Kelton of Greenville has been named Ms. Exquisite Full-Figured North Carolina 2022.
