Gilliam County Historical Museum

The Gilliam County Historical Museum Complex, located right next to Burns Park in Condon, displays several historical buildings with furnished period interiors, including an 1884 Homestead, 1905 Railroad Depot, a 1900 Country School house, a 1900’s Barbershop, the old Condon City Hall and Jail, a country church, and finally a large agricultural display building with antique equipment and vehicles. Tours can be customized to fit all ages and special interest for large or small groups. Admission is free, but donations are appreciated.

On July 23, 2022 at 01:12am Morrow County Sheriff’s Deputy Collin Brill made a traffic stop near the old mill in Heppner, on a vehicle whose driver was exhibiting the signs of being impaired. The male driver initially stopped and when contacted by the deputy, was uncooperative, irate, and left the scene, narrowly missing hitting the deputy and traveling into the oncoming lane of travel. He was traveling toward Lexington at a high rate of speed.

Gilliam County launches its own public health department, leaving regional health district

Your browser does not support the audio element. On July 1, Gilliam County began operating its own public health department. The move ends, after 13 years, its membership in a regional health district that includes neighboring Wasco and Sherman Counties. Gilliam won approval from the Oregon Health Authority to create its own local health authority after officials conducted a feasibility study last year to examine the cost and level of service the county could directly provide its roughly 2,000 residents. Elizabeth Farrar is the Gilliam County Judge. She joins us to explain how the county’s experience during the pandemic prompted this transition, and the top public health priorities for the new agency she now oversees.

A New Project in Rural Oregon Is Letting Farmers Test Drive Electric Tractors in the Name of Science

Robert Wallace was puzzled when the first electric tractor was delivered to his home in rural Dufur, Oregon, about 75 miles east of Portland. Wallace, an expert on rural energy projects, knows his way around a tractor. But the electric machine, distributed by the California-based startup Solectrac, didn’t idle when he turned it on, unlike the loud diesel-powered tractors he was used to. It hummed.

TD man found guilty in home invasion

THE DALLES — The suspect in a home invasion that occurred in February in The Dalles was found guilty and sentenced to 153 months in prison. Wasco County District Attorney Matthew Ellis announced that Dakota Glenn received a 140-month sentence last week from Judge Janet Stauffer after being found guilty by jury of Robbery in the Second Degree, Kidnapping in the Second Degree, and Burglary in the First Degree. In addition to the 140 months, Glenn received 13 months for a previous Failure to Perform the Duties of a Driver, Causing an Injury.
