SIOUX FALLS – Day 2 of the SDHSAA track and field championships Friday was primarily preliminary races and field events, but some area athletes found success nonetheless. The two finals on the track came at the beginning of the day in the open 3,200-meters and roughly halfway through competition in the open 800. Joey Marlys Grunwald Aldern beloved sister, wife, mother, homemaker, grandmother, and great-grandmother, passed away peacefully at her home in Vermillion, on May 22, 2022. She was born in 1929, to Emil and Zola Grunwald at their home in Sturgis. Her father was Superintendent of Schools in Sturgis, and she attended Sturgis Public Schools for 12 years. During her high school years, she worked summers in various Sturgis businesses, was a member of homecoming royalty, received the Citizenship Award, and was the Salutatorian of the Class of 1947.

SOUTH SIOUX CITY -- South Sioux City residents will have fewer days this year to set off fireworks within the city during the July 4 holiday. The South Sioux City Council on Monday passed an ordinance limiting the discharge of fireworks within the city limits to 8 a.m.-11 p.m. on July 2, 3 and 4.
