Team Haverhill is launching its Mount Washington Neighborhood Clean and Green campaign next week as it looks to expand throughout the city. Neighborhood Clean and Green is an extension of Team Haverhill’s successful and ongoing Clean & Green Downtown Haverhill campaign, which started in 2019. It has resulted in more than 1,000 cleaning, planting and painting activities. The idea to extend cleanup efforts to Haverhill’s neighborhoods was raised at Possible Dreams, Team Haverhill’s annual community visioning event.

Loop Viewing Area Remains the Same for Methuen Fireworks, but Launch Area Changes

Methuen is changing where this Saturday night’s fireworks will be ignited because of the development of a new apartment complex. In previous years, according to Mayor Neil Perry’s office, residents would look across Pleasant Valley Street from the Loop and see the fireworks up above. The fireworks will now launch from the other side of the Loop. As such, the on and off ramps of exit 4 on Route 213 will be closed Saturday, July 9, from noon to 11p.m.

John Ward, the first minister of the town of Haverhill. The Hunkins Shoe Shop is described as a typical “ten footer,” a small building employing several men to put soles on shoe uppers at the beginning of the factory system.

Chris Sale threw a fit in the dugout after being removed from his rehab start on Wednesday night. Sale is working his way back from a February rib injury that has prevented him from pitching in the big leagues this season. He pitched 3.2 innings for the Triple-A Worcester Red Sox in a 4-2 loss. The outing marked his fourth rehab start, though it did not go as the pitcher hoped.

Quiñones Becomes Northern Essex Community College’s First Chief of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion

Haverhill’s Francellis Quiñones has been selected as the first chief officer of Justice, Equity, Diversity and Inclusion for Northern Essex Community College. According to the college, Quiñones has been dedicated to diversity, equity and inclusion work in the Merrimack Valley for nearly 20 years. She comes to Northern Essex from Lowell-based UTEC where she was organizing program manager. She is also the co-founder and president of Quiñones Culture Consultants. Previously, she worked as an educator in Boston Public Schools, Weston Public Schools and Greater Lawrence Technical School.

Rays Shut Down Red Sox Offense In Bello’s Debut For Boston

BOSTON (AP) — Corey Kluber worked six scoreless innings and the Tampa Bay Rays beat the Red Sox 7-1 in the major league debut of Brayan Bello, the top pitching prospect in Boston’s system. The 23-year-old Bello worked four up-and-down innings, allowing four runs on six hits with three walks and four strikeouts. The right-hander finished his 79-pitch outing by retiring two batters after Josh Lowe’s one-out double. Randy Arozarena had a two-out, two-run double in the third inning off Bello, and Kevin Kiermaier had another run-scoring double to make it 4-0. Kluber allowed three hits with no walks and five strikeouts.
