Boonville man arrested after residents ordered to take shelter

A Boonville man was arrested Sunday night following a “domestic-related vandalism” that led to authorities ordering residents to shelter in place, an official said Monday. Stacey Rose, 51, was arrested after his wife reported he had an assault weapon and was burning her belongings in a barrel on Lambert Lane, according to the Mendocino County Sheriff’s Office.

Yesterday afternoon, an argument between an Anderson Valley man and his female partner would result in him burning her property which resulted in a stand-off between him and law enforcement. Thankfully, he would surrender without any violence.

The Owens Fire Reaches 100% Containment

Three days after it began near Point Arena, the Owens Fire stands at 100% containment, confirmed by this morning’s CALFIRE Incident update. Totaling 36 acres and driven by high winds, the Owens Fire marked Mendocino County’s first wildfire of the year requiring mandatory evacuations. Highway 1 was shutdown in the beginning hours of the blaze and one-way traffic control was in place nearly 48 hours after the fire’s start.

Sheriff’s Office investigating alleged murder-suicide on Ukiah’s Burke Hill Road

MENDOCINO Co., 5/22/22 — The Mendocino County Sheriff’s Office (MCSO) is investigating a potential murder-suicide with a firearm that occurred on Friday, May 20 at a residence at the 4900 block of Burke Hill Road in Ukiah, and the agency is requesting information from the public. According to the Sheriff’s Office press release, deputies were first called to the location by the victim’s son, where they found two people deceased: suspect Shawn M. Stark, a 57-year-old man from Ukiah, and his 56-year-old wife Suzanne Stark.

Mendocino Film Festival returns in person June 2 – 5

MENDOCINO Co., 5/23/22 — The Mendocino Film Festival is resuming in-person performances this year, and there will be nearly 60 films, panels, workshops, and parties happening June 2 – 5. The event will include a total of 35 feature films and 23 short films, including four California premieres, as well as the opportunity to hear from a number of film makers and animators, including a workshop with Academy Award nominated animator Bill Plympton.

Murder-Suicide Suspected in Ukiah

Mendocino County Sheriff’s deputies are investigating a suspected murder-suicide in Ukiah. On Friday night, deputies responded to an emergency call of a murder-suicide on Burke Hill Road. They found two dead in the residence: 56-year-old Suzanne Stark and 57-year-old Shawn Stark. Investigators determined that the couple got into an argument, after which Shawn killed Suzanne with a shotgun before turning it on himself. The couple’s son was present at the time of the incident but did not directly witness the shooting. He called 911 to report the shooting. A records check showed no known incidents of domestic violence between the married couple.

Certified Nurse Midwife Brie Abbe has joined the Care for Her team. She is a graduate of Frontier Nursing University, who recently moved her family to Ukiah from Bar Harbor, Maine to work with MCHC. Abbe’s family includes her partner (Mwaura Ngoima, an artist), and two children, Olida, age 5, and Rio, age 11.

Owens Fire Near Point Arena Stands at 36 Acres at 20% Containment

The Owens Fire near the Mendocino County coastal town of Point Arena burned 36 acres of wildland and as of this morning stands at 20% containment. A CALFIRE Incident Update indicates that despite gusty winds yesterday, firefighters were able to halt the wildfire’s forward progress. Last night, the goal for fire resources was strengthening containment lines and mopping up.
