Fremont swimmer brings home gold, bronze from Special Olympics
FREMONT, Neb. — Henry Bishop is not your average 17-year-old. The Fremont native took home gold and bronze medals during June's U.S. Special Olympics in Orlando, Florida. Bishop was one of 35 athletes and four swimmers representing Nebraska during the games. He won gold in the 200 meter freestyle, bronze in the 4x50 meter relay and finished seventh in the 100 meter freestyle.

Man gets 10-20 years in sex trafficking case, victim was York County teen
YORK – Anthony C. McCain, 38, of David City, has been sentenced to a term of 10-20 years in a case where he was initially charged with sex trafficking a minor, first degree sexual assault of a minor, delivery of a controlled substance near a school (two counts) and enticement by electronic device.

Clallam 3 Fire crew stops huge shop blaze from spreading to house
AGNEW – Clallam 3 firefighters battled a blaze Thursday afternoon and were able to confine it to two outbuildings and keep it from spreading to the house. The initial call, which came in just before 4:00pm, was from a person unfamiliar with the area and gave them multiple incorrect locations, saying there was a brush fire in Carlsborg. 911 Dispatchers were able to get information from additional callers and update crew that the fire actually involved a vehicle, a structure and a field fire on Percival Road in Agnew.

Annual fireworks show set for Sunday night
It was in the early 2000s when Ron Vlach found out that Fremont’s Fourth of July Fireworks Show was in jeopardy. “Whoever was putting on the show at Fremont decided it was too much work and too much planning,” said Vlach, a military veteran. “We figured that all of the smaller communities around Fremont have a fireworks show so I talked to a few of my friends and they said we should just resurrect it.”
