But now that conditions are starting to improve, participants were back again this year, showing off the animals they raised over the past several months in the hopes of earning the title of “champion.”

It has been a difficult three semesters since COVID-19 complications descended upon the schools. Still, life goes on as does trying to engage and educate our youth. The agriculture department at Northeastern High School wrote and received three grants to enhance the resources of the Harris Demonstration Farm on Creek Road and the Agriculture Complex at the school.

Stagikas turns peppers into hot-selling sauce biz

Hertford County toughens solar farm regulations

WINTON – It appears that new language added to Hertford County’s Zoning Ordinance will address the concerns of local leaders and citizens have regarding solar farms. In October of last year, the Hertford County Board of Commissioners, after hearing negative comments about the lack of regulations controlling the placement and aesthetics of solar farms, enacted a moratorium on the issuance of building, zoning, and conditional use and/or special use permits for solar farm facility development.

State of Emergency issued after pipeline cyber-attack

Chowan County residents waited at local gas stations Monday event to fill up on gasoline in light of a cyber-attack that shutdown a gas line. The price of regular gas rose 10 cents over the course of 24 hours during the weekend, and was $2.64 cents at the Duck-Thru on Sunday morning. 2021 Chowan County Livestock Show

Tuesday, April 20, 2021, marked the 67th Annual Chowan County 4-H Livestock Show and Sale. Fifty-six Chowan County youth participated this year. There were 12 goat exhibitors and 44 hog exhibitors. Matthew Morrison, North Carolina State University Animal Science Research Project Coordinator, was the judge for the 2021 show. This year, due to COVID-19 restrictions, the show was limited to parent/guardian spectators.
