Electricity Off in Parts of Coleman County

According to Coleman County Electric Coop, as of 9:15 pm Tuesday, AEP has an issue that has caused the Novice, Talpa and Gouldbusk substations to lose electricity. They are working on the problem and will hopefully have it resolved shortly.

Excessive Heat Warning in Coleman County This Afternoon

An Excessive Heat Warning has been issued for Coleman and nearby counties from 1:00 pm to 8:00 pm today. Temperatures of 105-110 degrees are forecast across West Central Texas today. Extreme heat will significantly increase the potential for heat related illnesses, particularly for those working or participating in outdoor activities. At the same time, there is a Red Flag Warning in effect today for very high to extreme wildfire danger. Gusty southwest wind will combine with temperatures 105 degrees or hotter and humidity as low as 5% this afternoon. Accidental ignitions will have the potential to grow into dangerous wind-driven wildfires. Avoid the use of open flames or any activities that may generate sparks.

"Coleman Fire Department resources are currently assisting with a wildfire west of Horne Hill, east of F.M. 503, north of U.S. Hwy 67, and south of county road 404. Elevated fire weather conditions will persist on this Wednesday. Temperatures are forecast to reach as high as 104-106 in the Coleman County area this afternoon. Heat illnesses will be possible for those working or exercising outside. Precautions should be taken to prevent heat illness.

Early Voting This Week for May 24 Primary Runoff Election

Early voting got underway Monday morning for the Joint Primary Runoff Election. Early voting will continue all this week at the Coleman County Courthouse. Polls are open from 8:00 am until 5:00 pm each day through Friday, May 20. Election Day is Tuesday, May 24, when polls will be open from 7:00 am until 7:00 pm. All voting on Tuesday will be at the Coleman County Courthouse. The Republican and Democratic sample ballots are attached to this story as PDF files.

Coleman County Under Red Flag Warning Tuesday Afternoon

Milton Autry Memory Lake Fishing Dock

A fishing dock was placed on Milton Autry Memory Lake this week and it has already been seeing traffic from locals. The dock was partially funded through a grant from the Coleman County Foundation and the remainder of the funds were provided by the City of Coleman and the Coleman EDC.

EDC Boards to Meet TUESDAY - Consider Incentive for New Business

The CEDC and CCC boards will consider additional funds to pay for the boat dock at Memory Lake, paying for new furniture for the EDC Director, purchase new sound equipment and furniture for the Council chamber. Andrea Angelina Hernandez is the daughter of Arthur Hernandez Jr. and Mandy Hernandez. While in high school, Andrea has been a varsity cheerleader for the 2021-2022 school year. Andrea was chosen to be the 2021-2022 Miss Coleman County. Andrea is also in National Honor Society, Junior Chamber, Make A Difference Organization and UIL Academics.
