Pettis County COVID Taskforce Shares Good News and Concern in Update

The Pettis County COVID-19 Task Force shared some good news, and expressed a note of concern in their latest briefing Monday afternoon. The good news, for the first time in over a year Pettis County didn't have an increase in COVID-19 cases in double digits. There were eight cases last week, and fourteen cases the week prior. For the month of May, the positivity rate was 4.87 with 62 positive cases and 1,210 negative cases.

SFCC implements new COVID protocols

New COVID protocols are being implemented across the state and the latest is State Fair Community College. Last month, the Pettis County Health Center Board of Trustees and Sedalia School District 200 Board of Education made face masks optional on May 12. Now at SFCC, new COVID protocols will go into effect on June 1. The SFCC COVID-19 Response Team based this decision on the guidance of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and local health authorities, SFCC President Dr. Joanna Anderson said. According to Anderson, individuals can now take personal responsibility for themselves and their safety due to vaccines being available.

NEARLY 30 PERCENT OF PETTIS COUNTY RESIDENTS HAVE RECEIVED AT LEAST ONE DOSE OF COVID-19 VACCINE

Nearly three-tenths of Pettis County residents have been administered at least one dose of COVID-19 vaccine, according to the Pettis County Health Center. Minutes from the Pettis County COVID-19 Task Force meeting on Monday, May 24, say Pettis County has now vaccinated approximately 29.3 percent of the population with at least one dose. According to the state’s website, 12,386 Pettis County residents have received one dose and 10,945 have completed the two-dose series- which is approximately 25.9 percent of the population fully vaccinated.

KATY TRAIL COMMUNITY HEALTH OFFERING COVID-19 TESTING, VACCINATIONS

Katy Trail Community Health is conducting COVID-19 testing from 8 a.m. to noon Mondays through Fridays at 816 Westwood in Sedalia. Minutes from the Pettis County COVID-19 Task Force meeting on Monday, May 24, say the health center can do a 15-minute rapid test for those who are traveling; or the health center will do laboratory testing with results within 48 hours. There is no charge for either type of testing.

Pettis County Health Center relaxes COVID-19 guidelines

SEDALIA — As coronavirus case numbers improve in Pettis County, many guidelines are starting to relax. Effective at 12:01 a.m. Wednesday morning, the face covering rule will expire. Face coverings will still be encouraged while indoors, but according to the news release, will no longer need to be worn in small groups when everyone present is fully vaccinated, or in most outdoor activities aside from large gatherings such as concerts and sporting events.
