The Kiowa County Senior Center in Greensburg will host Kansas Quilt Speaker Deborah Divine on Friday, July 1 at 1 p.m. for a special presentation. Divine, who is the President at the Quilters Hall of Fame in Marion, Indiana, will present Sharing Patterns, Sharing Lives and spend the afternoon highlighting some of the most important and influential works from a variety of artists.

A solo exhibit by Andi Burnam has opened at the 5.4.7. Arts Center in Greensburg featuring her “Pieces of Home” collection, now available to the public until August 26. Burnam is a paper mosaic artist and illustrator. She collects colored pages of magazines, most of them donated to her by friends, and sorts them into envelopes of like colors. Then she sketches a picture, pulls out the proper colored papers and tears them into tiny pieces, each coated with the proper amount of glue, and formulates them into a mosaic picture, which is then coated with protective epoxy sealant. She loves cows, dogs, cats and other animals so most of her finished pictures are detailed portraits of those subjects.

Haviland – Samuel Jay Bucher’s love of life didn’t come to an end with his death. Sam went home to the Lord on June 16, 2022, at the age of 79, surrounded by loved ones who will continue to honor his legacy by living life to the fullest. Son, brother, husband, father, and grandfather were roles he fulfilled with love and laughter. Sam was a true friend and could always bring laughter and a smile to any situation with an unexpected sarcastic comment or observation. He kept us on our toes.

Sarah Fitch of Haviland, Kansas was involved in a car wreck last week in Ainsworth, Iowa. At approximately 1:44 p.m. Thursday, June 16, the Washington County Communications Center received a report of a three-vehicle wreck with injuries that blocked the roadway, near the main entrance to the Ainsworth Four Corners located at 3112 Highway 92.

The owners of Haviland Broadband have announced plans to bring FIBER INTERNET to the town of Mullinville in Kiowa County. Over the last several years, Haviland Broadband has been working to replace copper lines in Conway Springs, Haviland, Argonia, 99 Springs, sections of rural Norwich and Conway Springs, as well as bringing fiber to Greensburg and Coldwater.

Miss Kansas 2022 Ayanna Hensley is a Dodge City resident with Greensburg connections, a Rudd Scholar and 2022 Fort Hays State University graduate with a major in biology and a minor in creative writing. The Miss Kiowa County candidate is an accomplished athlete, student and a person of deep faith. But she didn’t come from a typical family background with a predestined penchant for success. She had to fight her way through childhood abuse, trauma and poverty. It’s something she is not ashamed to talk about, and something she feels has prepared her to be in the best position now, as Miss Kansas 2022, to reach out to others and lift them up through difficulties to be the best they can be.

The Greensburg City met Monday, June 6 to discuss multiple items of business. The council opened with prayer over their decisions and then went on to roll call. Council persons Pam Reves and Chance Little were absent, but the council still met in order to hear the 2021 audit report. This audit report was presented by Jim Kennedy from Kennedy and Mckee. He reported they had minimal problems when conducting the audit, and had no disagreements with management either. Kennedy stated that the financial condition of the city improved during 2021 with increases in revenue and unencumbered available funds.
