Chowan sheriff, SBI investigating fatal shooting of woman

EDENTON — The Chowan County Sheriff's Office and N.C. State Bureau of Investigation are investigating the shooting death of a Chowan woman Tuesday night. The sheriff's office said in a press release that it received emergency calls of a shooting incident shortly before midnight on N.C. Highway 32, just north of Greenhall Road. The release identified Lakita Morring, of Edenton, as the victim of the shooting and said she died as a result of her injuries. The press release didn't contain further details, only that Morring's shooting is being investigated by both the sheriff's office and SBI. The Sheriff's Office is asking anyone with information about Morring's shooting to call either the department at 252-482-8484, the department's anonymous tip line at 252-482-5100, or the SBI at 919-662-4500.

Chowan, state authorities investigating deadly shooting

Local and state law enforcement are probing a shooting that took the life of an Edenton resident early Tuesday morning. On June 28, the Chowan County Sheriff's Office received emergency calls for a shooting that occurred shortly after midnight. The call originated from a point along N.C. 32 just north of Greenhall Road. The victim, Lakita Morring of Edenton, died as a result of her injuries. The Chowan County Sheriff's Office and the N.C. State Bureau of Investigation are actively investigating this shooting.
