Legion float to honor Korean War vets

American Legion Hughes-Pittinger Post 26 is using its float in Saturday’s Park County Fair Parade to honor local veterans who served in the Korean War. This year marks the 71st anniversary of the start of the Korean War, which began on June 25, 1950. The fighting officially ended on July 27, 1953 with the signing of the Korean Armistice Agreement, which drew the Military Demarcation Line and created a Demilitarized Zone separating North and South Korea.

5th Grizzly Relocated to Park County in Summer 2021

The Five Mile Creek Drainage is a popular place, as another Pinedale cattle-killing grizzly is relocated to the area five miles from Yellowstone’s East Gate. Wyoming Game and Fish has relocated yet another grizzly to Park County in Summer 2021. A sub-adult female was captured near Pinedale and relocated to the Five Mile Creek drainage in Park County – five miles away from the East Gate of Yellowstone National Park.

Cody: Chip Sealing Downtown For First Two Weeks of August

The first two weeks of August means road maintenance in Cody, as the City of Cody’s Streets Division plans to chip city roads in and around downtown. The City of Cody has released a schedule for extensive chip sealing throughout the community. According to their schedule, the work begins on Monday, August 2, and will continue until Wednesday, August 11.

Conservation Corps improves Cody-area trails

The Bureau of Land Management hosted the Utah Conservation Corps this summer for two weeks of trail improvement projects at the Four Bear and Peaks Divide trails near Cody. “BLM-managed public land in this area gives people an alternative to Yellowstone’s busy trails,” BLM Outdoor Recreation Planner Rick Tryder said. “By maintaining these trails, we hope to provide recreationists with sustainable outdoor opportunities near Cody.”

Tim Foley May Be Appointed Cody Schools Interim Superintendent

After the resignation of Peg Monteith, Assistant Superintendent Tim Foley will lead the Cody school district until a permanent superintendent can be found. The Park County School District #6 Board of Trustees released the agenda for a special board meeting on Wednesday, July 28. One of the agenda items is naming Tim Foley – a long-time Cody resident and school administrator – as the interim superintendent for the 2021-2022 school year.

Balloons will lift off in Cody this weekend

At dawn Friday-Sunday, six hot air balloons will be lifting off from Mentock Park in honor of a Cody man who spent hours piloting balloons. Jack Way, who died Jan. 4, had been a board member at Yellowstone Regional Airport and member of numerous civic clubs in town, as well as an organizer of the Cody Wild West Balloon Fest.

Lebruska returns to Park County Fair

A Powell native, Steve Lebruska is no stranger to the fair. He said he has “always enjoyed the genuine hometown feeling of the Park County Fair.”. Some of his favorite parts of the fair include “the livestock, the quilts, produce, pies and projects to be judged, the food of course, the demolition derby and the musical entertainment, which I am very pleased to be a part of this year!” Lebruska said.
