Mifflinburg man allegedly points gun at woman's head, strangles her

Mifflinburg, Pa. — A man in Union County allegedly held a firearm to a woman’s head as he attempted to strangle her. On April 21, Shane A. Murray, 36, of Mifflinburg, got into an argument with the woman at a home in West Buffalo Township. The woman told police the argument began over food and it quickly escalated into a physical fight, according to Trooper George Aguirre of the Milton State Police.

Cause Not Known in Catawissa Mountain Fire

A Catawissa Township home was destroyed in a fire Friday. Crews were called to the scene in the first block of VFW Home Lane; flames spread to nearby brush and caused a wildfire. Several companies were involved in setting up a perimeter and keeping the fire from spreading further. Described as a summer vacation home, the building was destroyed. No injuries were reported.

Men facing drug charges after traffic stop

Catawissa, Pa. — A man who believed he was wanted on a felony warrant allegedly made up a fake twin brother to fool police about his real identity during a traffic stop. But a piece of yellow fabric sticking out of the gas cap led police to the man's stashed wallet, which contained his driver's license, according to Catawissa Police Chief Josh Laidacker.

Volunteers clean up Pottsville cemetery

Volunteers gathered at the United Presbyterian Church Cemetery in Pottsville on Saturday morning cleaning up sticks and branches from the cemetery. The cleanup was organized by Al Matz, a member of the church, to clear the grounds of debris in preparation for grass mowing at the cemetery for Memorial Day. Volunteers included members of the Scout Troop 600 of Llewellyn.
