Chatham police find woman dead in home

One woman is dead and her husband is in a trauma center after the couple was found in their home during a welfare check, according to the Chatham Police Department. Police arrived at the home, located in the 200 block of Catalpa Drive at about 10 p.m. June 29, where they found the deceased body of Judy Boswell. Also located in the home was Kenneth Boswell, Judy's husband. Kenneth Boswell was air-lifted to a trauma center where he remains.

Shooter of American Freight manager in Danville sentenced

DANVILLE, Va. (WDBJ) - The man accused of shooting the manager of an American Freight store in Danville last year has been sentenced. In Danville Circuit Court Friday, Jaivon Scott pleaded guilty to malicious wounding, plus two separate firearms charges. He was sentenced to 18 years in prison, but 11 were suspended, leading to seven years.

A regional group is applying for state help to pay for some big road improvements in Danville. The Danville-Pittsylvania Metropolitan Planning Organization last week voted to apply for grants from Virginia Smart Scale. According to their website, Virginia Smart Scale is a process that helps Virginia meet its most critical transportation needs using limited tax dollars. “It evaluates potential transportation projects based on key factors like how they improve safety, reduce congestion, increase accessibility, contribute to economic development, promote efficient land use and affect the environment.”

Virginia man sentenced to prison in store manager’s shooting

DANVILLE, Va. — A Virginia man was sentenced to seven years in prison for shooting a store clerk in the back of the head one year ago.
