Cross confirms selection as district judge

CLOVIS - A staff attorney for the Ninth Judicial District is moving to the bench, as Benjamin Cross was selected for the vacant judge's position. Cross, 41, confirmed to The News Thursday evening he received a phone call from Gov. Michelle Lujan Grisham informing him of his appointment to the position. He was one of four candidates recommended to the governor in late August by a committee of local and state representatives.

Streets closed for repairs

CLOVIS — The city of Clovis has closed portions of Sycamore Street and 21st Street Tuesday to allow for gas line repairs, according to a city release. Hearing scheduled on Floyd board

SANTA FE — A virtual hearing has been scheduled for next week regarding the August suspension of the Floyd school board. Two separate Zoom meeting links have been issued to board members by the Public Education Department, with both the Sept. 29 and Sept. 30 sessions scheduled for 9 a.m. Each session is expected to run six to seven hours.

45 new COVID-19 cases reported in Eastern New Mexico, 1 death in Curry County

Health officials reported 45 new COVID-19 cases and one virus-related death in Eastern New Mexico, amidst 762 new cases and 13 deaths statewide, on Friday. According to the New Mexico Department of Health, there were 30 new coronavirus cases reported in Curry County, eight new cases in Quay County, five cases in Roosevelt County and two cases in Union County.
