Semi crashes into Van Wert home

VAN WERT, Ohio (WANE) – What was first called in as a lightning strike turned out to be a semi vs. house crash in Van Wert on Monday morning. Van Wert Police were called at about 4:27 a.m. to the area of U.S. 127 and Sunset Drive for a possible lightning strike, according to a media release.

Two OVI arrests over the weekend; one 3x over the legal limit

The Logan County Sheriff's Office arrested two unrelated individuals over the weekend for OVI. In the first report, deputies were patrolling on State Route 366, in the area of Lincoln Boulevard, in Russells Point around midnight on Sunday when they observed a vehicle sitting at a stop sign for an excessive period of time.

A Lima man falls to his death at a Hocking County nature preserve

The Hocking County Coroner has released the name of a man that fell 80 feet to his death. 45-year-old Willard L. Gay of Lima was pronounced dead at 3:37 pm on Sunday, May 15th. In an investigation into the fall, the coroner's office reports that Gay was on the upper rim of Conkles Hollow and dropped something. He saw the object and walked around the platform near the waterfall and reached for the object when he fell headfirst off the rim. The coroner's investigator says the fall was witnessed. Gay's body has been taken to Montgomery County for autopsy.

Driver hurt after semi strikes residence

VAN WERT — On Monday at or around 4:27 a.m., the Van Wert Police Department was called to the area of US 127 and Sunset Drive for a possible lightning strike at a residence. Upon arrival it was discovered a semi-truck and trailer had veered off the road to the left, struck a power pole, a tree, and finally a residence, where it came to rest.

Ohio humane society seizes 22 German Shepherds living in 'deplorable conditions'

LIMA, Ohio — An Ohio humane society is now taking care of 22 German Shepherd dogs after they were seized from property that they described as "deplorable conditions." The Ohio SPCA & Humane Society said as soon as they arrived at the scene, they knew the seizure was necessary. They removed the 22 dogs from the property and took them to the shelter.

Nearly 2 dozen dogs were taken from poor living conditions and are now at the Ohio SPCA shelter in Allen County. An anonymous call on May 4th led authorities to a Lima residence in regard to a large number of dogs that weren’t being cared for. The SPCA found 9 adult German Shepherds and 13 puppies in cages. The owner of the animals was contacted, and they cooperated and did surrender the dogs.
