Police rescue missing West Des Moines man from Raccoon River embankment

WEST DES MOINES, Iowa — The West Des Moines Police Department said rescue crews located a 59-year-old man reported missing Tuesday morning near the Raccoon River. Rod Cheney had previously been seen walking from his disabled vehicle around 7:45 a.m. at the intersection of South Grand Prairie Parkway and Raccoon River Drive, according to police.

Iowa man sentenced to 18 years for child pornography

DES MOINES, Iowa-A Des Moines man was sentenced today to 18 years in prison for producing child pornography. According to court documents, Michael Aaron Estrada, age 35, used Snapchat in 2019 and 2020 to communicate with a minor who lived in Massachusetts. Estrada knew the minor with whom he was communicating was 15 years old. On multiple dates between August 2019 and June 2020, Estrada knowingly solicited from that minor pictures and videos of the minor engaged in sexually explicit conduct. The minor created “selfie” photos and videos of herself as requested and sent them to Estrada via Snapchat. Separate from the conduct involving the 15-year old, Estrada also downloaded other pictures and videos of child pornography from the internet in 2019 and 2020 and distributed videos of child pornography via the internet in March 2020.

Nurses Who Gave Overdoses Of Coronavirus Vaccine To Inmates Have Been Fired

(Des Moines, IA) — The Iowa Department of Corrections says the two nurses who gave overdoses of the coronavirus vaccine to dozens of prison inmates have been fired. The accidental overdoses were administered in April at the Fort Madison prison. The nurses haven’t been identified. Seventy-seven inmates were given up to six times the proper dose, but no medical complications have been reported. The state employees’ union has blamed poor training. A spokesperson says the nurses were only given 90 minutes’ notice of the change to a new vaccine that required more preparation.

FORT MADISON, Iowa — Two Iowa prison nurses are out of a job due to a vaccination error. Officials told the Des Moines Register they were fired for giving dozens of inmates too much vaccine. KCCI first reported in April that 77 inmates at the Fort Madison prison were over-vaccinated.
