Troy University’s Board of Trustees has honored State Sen. Jimmy Holley (R-Elba), who is retiring later this year. Holley, who retires from the Alabama Senate in November with nearly a half-century of service in the Legislature, has represented Pike, Covington, Coffee and Dale counties in the Senate for six terms and served from 1974 – 1994 in the State House of Representatives.

Man flees to hotel rooftop in The Villages after allegedly pointing gun at woman

A man fled through a window to the rooftop of a hotel in The Villages after allegedly pointing a gun at a woman. Law enforcement responded at about 5 p.m. Monday to the Comfort Inn & Suites on Avenida Central where 23-year-old Jimero Lee Von Jackson of Ozark, Ala. pointed a Taurus G2C 9mm semi-automatic handgun at a woman in a guest room, according to an arrest report from the Lady Lake Police Department. Jackson had struck the woman several times and choked her. The altercation was witnessed by an out-of-state party over a video call, the report said.

Former Charles Henderson star Jawara White hired at WS Neal

It was announced on Friday that former Charles Henderson High School star linebacker Jawara White has been hired as defensive coordinator at WS Neal. White will coach under his former high school coach, Hugh Fountain, at WS Neal. White was 2008 Class 5A All-State honorable mention and also played in the 2009 Alabama-Mississippi All-Star Football Game. He finished his senior season with the Trojans with 67 tackles, 17 tackles-for-loss, one interception and two fumble recoveries returned for a touchdown. The 6-foot-2-inch, 225-pound athlete also scored three rushing two touchdowns and two receiving touchdowns as a senior.
