After a brief chase, a Pike County man who had driven away from a traffic stop was apprehended and charged with drug trafficking. Just north of the cut-through, a state trooper observed Scott Hurley, 41, of Pikeville, traveling at 70 mph on U.S. 23. Hurley pulled onto Bypass Road after police attempted to stop him, but he continued to drive.

Pound man charged after victim shot in leg in Wise County, police say

POUND, Va. (WCYB) — A man has been charged following a shooting in Pound Monday, according to police. Police responded to the 17000 block of Tompkins Road following a 911 call Monday evening. Prior to police arriving, the male victim was taken to Dickenson County Hospital in a personal vehicle. The victim was treated for a gunshot wound to his leg and was later transferred to Johnson City Medical Center for further treatment and was released, authorities said.
