Mourning the late Bishop Anthony M. Pilla, a son of Cleveland: editorial

Bishop Anthony M. Pilla’s 88-year journey in earthly life began in Cleveland, the city he loved, and ended this week near where it started, when he died at home. In between, the Roman Catholic prelate spent a quarter-century, until 2006, as bishop of the Cleveland Catholic Diocese in service to all its parishes, rich and poor, suburban and urban. His “Church in the City” initiative, as Pilla’s obituary notes, “became a national model for challenging communities to recognize the human costs of suburban sprawl.”
