Oscar D. Smith, age 89, of Heber Springs, Arkansas, passed away June 11, 2021. Born on October 8, 1931 in Heber Springs, Arkansas, he was the son of the late George F. and Trudie Blakey Smith.Deral retired from the Cleburne County Hospital in 1993 after working in environmental services for many years.He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother Leroy Smith and his wife Bettie of Attica, Indiana.He is survived by his sister Joyce Riddle of Heber Springs, Arkansas, his nieces Donaice Harris and her husband Phillip of Heber Springs, Arkansas, Debbie Spansell, and Diane Jernagan, and his nephew Larry Smith and his wife Glenda of Attica, Indiana.A graveside service will be held at 2:00pm on Tuesday, June 15, 2021 in the South Cross Roads Cemetery with Rev. Trauma season: Why summer is no vacation for first-responders

If the first part of the year is any indicator, it is going to be a busy summer for first-responders in and around the Heber Springs and Greers Ferry Lake area. At approximately 7:50 a.m. Saturday morning Heber Fire Boat 1, along with four members of the Dive Team, were dispatched to a reported boating accident near the area of Bay Shore Drive Upon arrival two people were found to be on board of a vessel that had struck the shoreline. One person was flown by Survival Flight to a trauma center and the other occupant was declared deceased on scene.

A 91-year-old Heber Springs man died after his golf cart was hit by a sports car in rural Cleburne County on Monday evening, troopers said. The wreck happened just before 5:25 p.m., as Roscoe Crafton attempted to make a U-turn in the golf cart in a ditch along Arkansas 110, according to a preliminary crash report from state police. The golf cart entered the eastbound lane of traffic and was struck by a 2011 Chevrolet Camaro, the report states.

Motorcyclist killed in Cleburne County crash

LITTLE ROCK (KATV) — A 47-year-old man was killed Sunday afternoon when he crashed his motorcycle in Drasco, according to Arkansas State Police. Jamie Johnson was reportedly driving a Kymco Taiwan motorcycle south on Highway 25 in Drasco around 1:30 p.m. While negotiating a left curve, he veered off the road. The motorcycle traveled for 82 feet along the roadside before landing on its side, a fatal crash report says.
