One dead following Clay County crash involving motorcycle

CLAY COUNTY, Ind. (WTHI TV) - A vehicle crash involving a motorcycle on Saturday morning leaves one dead and another in serious condition. As officers with the Clay County Sheriff's Office arrived on US HWY 40 and CR 225 W they found the two occupants of the motorcycle to have significant injuries. Police say the driver of the motorcycle, James R Smith of Terre Haute, was traveling east on US HWY 40 with his passenger Jane Smith, also of Terre Haute, in the passing lane.

One dead, one hospitalized after Clay County motorcycle crash

BRAZIL, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) — One woman was killed and one man seriously injured Saturday in Brazil, Ind., after they hit a turning car and were launched from their motorcycle. Clay County Sheriff’s deputies responded to a 911 call June 5 to find two motorcycle passengers seriously injured after being ejected onto the road near US Highway 40 and County Road 225 West, police said. The motorcycle driver, James Smith of Terre Haute, was headed east in the passing lane of US Highway 40 with his passenger, Jane Smith of Terre Haute, when the collision occurred, according to Chief Deputy Josh Clarke.

Master Trooper Wayne Billings recently retired as an Indiana State Trooper after nearly 41 years of service to the Indiana State Police. A Terre Haute native, Billings began his career July 9, 1980. Upon graduation from the academy he was originally assigned to the Terre Haute Post where he patrolled Clay County for three years.
