Task force shuts down drug lab, seizes guns and drugs

Law enforcement agencies at every level of government teamed up to shut down a long-running drug lab and dispensary. According to information from the Paragould Police Department and Second Judicial District Deputy Prosecuting Attorney Katherine Calaway, agents from the federal Department of Homeland Security and the Arkansas State Police joined police officers from Paragould, Jonesboro, Marmaduke, Pocahontas and Rector; and deputies from the sheriff’s departments of Greene, Clay and Craighead Counties on what was originally supposed to be a controlled delivery of a package of illegal drugs from Mexico on June 16.

Helen Ruth Foley, age 90, passed from this life on Sunday, May 23, 2021. She was born on August 10, 1930, in Clay County, Ark., to Robert and Grace Williams. She moved to Des Arc with her father and siblings after the death of her mother. She lived there until she moved to Little Rock in the late 1950's. Helen worked at Westinghouse until she retired. She enjoyed traveling with the Keenagers, reading and volunteering with her church group. She was a member of the First Assembly of God in North Little Rock and was loved by her church family. Helen was an accomplished seamstress and enjoyed sewing for her friends and family. She began by making dresses for her sisters-in-law out of flour sacks and made clothing for her daughters and granddaughters. She was also the best dumplin' cook you could ask for and the grandmother everyone wished they had. Helen will be missed by everyone that knew her.

A 38-year-old Paragould man died in a two-vehicle crash Saturday morning on Arkansas 135 in rural Clay County, according to an Arkansas State Police fatality report. Anthony L. Johnson was driving a 2000 GMC Sierra north on the highway at approximately 7:49 a.m. when the pickup crossed the centerline and struck a 2014 Freightliner head-on, the report said.
