Its time once again for a Ferron City update with Mayor Adele Justice who was eager to talk about Millsite Golf Course, fitness center, and an open house. The Millsite Golf Course has been closed to perform some maintenance on the greens as the drought had a dramatic effect on some portions of the grass. “Sure, we’ve spent thousands of dollars reseeding. That grass is coming up nicely, it’s not a premiere golf course yet but it’s getting there. We’re excited to show it off and let people come and see what’s going on. Like I said we spend thousands of dollars reseeding, it’s coming up but we’re still going to have it roped off in certain areas. So we want everybody to come out on July 1 when we open up and see the course and see the progress we’ve made,” said Mayor Justice. There are also some fun things taking place inside the Clubhouse, a brand new golf simulator has been installed. This machine is a great way for individuals to improve their game for the outdoor course.

Daniel “Danny” Leffler, 61, of Huntington, Utah, passed away on June 21, 2022 after a hard battle with lung cancer. Danny was the devoted husband of Leslie Leffler, the loving father of Julie Kister, Cory (Tyson Nielsen), Baby Danny, Maggie (Ryan Hotchkiss), Trista (Nathan Hyer), and the wonderful papa to Elaine and Junior Hotchkiss. Danny is preceded in death by his mom and dad (Ruby and Dale Leffler), his beloved son (Daniel Bud Leffler), and his older brother (Howard Leffler), and his brother in-law (Joe McNeel), and many nieces and nephews. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him.

Members of both the Emery and Carbon High Rodeo teams took part in the Utah High School Rodeo Association State Finals in Heber City. And eleven students claimed top ten finishes in the 15 events. Emery’s Byron Christiansen claimed the All-Around top prize and Shalako Gunter of Carbon earned the top spot in Trap Shooting.

The Emery Lady Spartans finished the season with a 16-9 overall record and a 5-3 Region 12 mark. Listed in the top 5 all season long, the Spartans were due to get some post season accolades. Tylee Norton, Cambrie Jensen, Brooklynn Ekker and Madisyn Childs all landed on the All-State list for softball.

The Emery Lady Spartan basketball team will be hosting a camp June 14-15 at the Spartan Center, cost is just $30 and all proceeds will go to expenses for the team. New head coach Jon Faimalo said that the clinic for the most part will be run by the team, as they will put attendees through drills on fundamentals like dribbling, passing and shooting.

With the end of the spring sports season comes awards and the All-State awards for the 2021-2022 track and field season were announced with Carbon athletes grabbing 10 nods and the Spartans landing five on the list. The All-State award is voted on by coaches around the state in each sport.
