New Madrid man pleads guilty in second degree murder

Following a plea agreement, a New Madrid man was sentenced to prison for a fatal shooting. 32-year-old George Dawson III entered a plea of guilty to a charge of second degree murder in connection with the fatal shooting of Donta Grissom. Grissom was shot in the head by Dawson shortly before 3 a.m. Oct. 1, 2020. After entering his guilty plea before Judge Benjamin Lewis on Tuesday in New Madrid County Circuit Court, Dawson was sentenced to 15 years in the custody of the Missouri Department of Corrections. The Malden Police Department is warning the public about tracking devices. The department took another report about an “AirTag” tracking device being placed on someone’s vehicle, unknowingly. They are not trying to alarm people, but would like you to be aware of how easily someone can track your whereabouts. You should periodically check your property. The department also included a message to the individual that placed the tracker on their Facebook Page. The message said, “We have your “AirTag” now, and because it was actively tracking, you know where it’s being secured, but in the event you don’t, Malden Police is located at 800 Eastern Ave., Malden, MO.”
