Carlene Saville

MAYSVILLE - Carlene Saville, 65, Maysville, passed unexpectedly on Sunday, September 5, 2021 while vacationing with her daughter’s family in Oceanside, California. Carlene was born October 11, 1955, was a native of Jackson County and graduate of both the Commerce High School Tigers, class of 1973 and cosmetology school. She obtained her master’s in cosmetology starting from the young age of 21. Throughout the span of her 44-year career she owned and operated several local salons. She was known and loved by many for her skills with her sheers, both cutting and styling hair. She retired from Smart Style at Banks Crossing, after a decade serving the community there, in the spring of 2020. She was a great friend to all who knew her.

Wanda Gail Maney

Wanda Gail Maney, 66, of Hiawassee, Ga., passed away Wednesday, Sept. 8, 2021 at her home. Wanda was born Nov. 4, 1954 in Hayesville to the late Ernest and Pearl Canup Monkus. Wanda was of the Baptist faith. She was a simple woman who loved to spend time with her family and a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and friend. She was a cook for many years and enjoyed going bowling with her husband. In her down time she liked to watch The Golden Girls or Roseanne.

Mrs. Fay Ellen Pocock, 83, of Gainesville passed away Thursday, September 16, 2021 at Northeast Georgia Medical Center Gainesville Campus. Funeral services will be held 2:00 p.m. on Monday, September 20, 2021 in the chapel of Memorial Park Funeral Home. Interment will follow in Memorial Park Cemetery. The family will receive friends at Memorial Park Funeral Home on Sunday, September 19, 2021 from 4:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m.

Barbara Sutton Blackwell, age 74, of Cleveland, passed away on Thursday, September 16, 2021.Bl. Mrs. Blackwell was born on July 3, 1947, in Cleveland, Georgia, to the late Boss and Maude Jarrard Sutton. She was retired from Jacky Jones Ford and a member of Mt. View Baptist Church. In addition to her parents, Barbara was preceded in death by her sister, Bonnie Tripp; brother and sister-in-law, Junior and Josephine Sutton; sister-in-law, Hazel Sutton and Charlotte Sutton; brother-in-law, Ralph Grizzle.

James “Richard” Morris

James “Richard” Morris, age 89, of Baldwin, Georgia went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, September 15, 2021. Mr. Morris was born on October 11, 1931, in Habersham County, Georgia to the late James Virgil and Nellie Terry Morris. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sisters, Lavada Dorsey, Margie Clark, Barbara McClurg, and Sarah Harrison Boatwright. Mr. Morris was a self-employed carpenter, working all of his life in carpentry. Richard was very passionate about Gospel Music, having a group complied mostly of his family that he sang and toured with for several years. He was a member of New Hope Baptist Church. Richard loved his family very much, he was known to his grandchildren as “Papa”.

Pat M Battle, age 77 of Gainesville, Georgia, passed away Thursday, September 16, 2021 at his home after a long battle with Multiple Sclerosis. He was born on April 4, 1944 in Houston, Texas to Orrin and Laura Battle. Pat attended Duke University, LSU, and Emory Dental School. He went on to a career with the United States Army, where he eventually retired after 20 years of service at the rank of Colonel. Additionally, he served as the long-term Chief Dentist at the Veterans Administration in Gulfport/Biloxi, MS. After retirement, he moved to Gainesville, GA where he lived for 15 years prior to his passing.
