Obituary: JoAnn Newton of Stuttgart

JoAnn Newton, 89, died Sunday, May 15, 2022, at her home in Stuttgart, surrounded by her family. She was born May 16, 1932, in Stuttgart and was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church. She graduated from Stuttgart High School where she also met her husband, Chicken Newton. They married in 1949 and together had five sons and two daughters.

Years of hard work from the class of 2022 culminated with Stuttgart High School’s graduation ceremony Friday night. The traditional ceremony featured a welcome by SHS Principal Jeff McKinney, recognition of the Stuttgart Board of Education by Superintendent Dr. Rick Gales, and music performed by the Ricebird Band Program.

Kiwanis Club hosting pork butt fundraiser this month

The Kiwanis Club of Stuttgart is holding a pork butt fundraiser this month. Kiwanian Ray Gilbert said funds raised will go toward local youth projects and scholarships. “We just gave out $13,000 worth of scholarships to seniors here at Stuttgart High School. We use money for things like that, playground equipment out at the ballpark, and a number of different things that we sponsor for the advancement of the kids here in the Grand Prairie,” Gilbert said.

Stuttgart track competes at the Arkansas Meet of Champions

Four Stuttgart Lady Ricebirds earned a spot in this year’s Meet of Champions that was held Wednesday in Russellville. Stuttgart sent Danyelle Poole, Danyae Poole, Kailey Bishop, and Sarah Tucker to compete in the 4×100 meter relay and the 4×200 meter relay. In addition to the team races, Danyelle Poole and Kailey Bishop ran the 100 meters and 200 meters. Danyelle Poole also competed in the triple jump.

Stuttgart Police Department Incident Reports: May 10, 2022

Hazen, missing person. Stuttgart Police were asked to investigate a report of a person missing from Hazen who was confirmed to have been brought to Stuttgart by a Prairie County sheriff deputy and left at Mack’s Prairie Wings. Shortly after talking to the police, the individual who filed the report returned to notify them that the missing person had been located at a hospital in Searcy.
